Coastguard open day pictures

                                                          Today, I spoke to Ashley Pledger, who is a coastguard in Selsey. I asked him what his role was as a coastguard, and he said he was responsible for looking after any problems under the high tide line. "Being a coastguard means being on call 24 hours a day, and carrying a pager (a type of message device) around all the time, and if it does go off, I have to drop everything I'm doing and go to the station," Ashley told me. Training also means a lot to him, he does it once a week, and sometimes at weekends.  He does mud training, where he gets very muddy, they also do water rescue practices.  He also practices casualty extraction as well ...

Lifeboat week Selsey.

On Wednesday, I spoke to Sue Lintott,who has been on the RNLI fundraising committee for 21 years, and chairman for two years,and she gave me some information about lifeboat week, and events going on.   Sue said, "There is an open day, where people can go round the new boathouse, which is on Monday 31st July, 6pm-9pm.On Tuesday, there is a walking treasure hunt,with a quiz at the Seal pub on Wednesday the 2nd. Following onto Thursday, there is the race night on at the Royal British Legion. On Friday, there is the dog show, ARO fitness kickboxing display, and the tug-of-war. Flag day and the car treasure hunt is on the Saturday, and finally it is Lifeboat  launch day on Sunday 6th of August." Then she told me a little bit more about lifeboat day itself. "On actual lifeboat day, it's the same as usual, including the bouncy castle, the games, and stalls, but there is no fireworks or air-display this year, as the insurance for them is too expensive."                                                   West Street News Agency As most of you all know, the old lifeboat house is being taken down, and only has two more weeks until it is officially gone, and it is very, very sad for people like me, who have been living here a long time. The old lifeboat station being taken down. But on the bright side of things, the new lifeboat has been named Denise and Eric. It has been called that as those were the names of the people who donated all the money for the new boat.
